Whether you need one, and which kind, depends on your brows, your skin and what is actually causing the thinning. These three pages cover it.
Do they really work, who should avoid prostaglandins, ingredients to look for, and growth-led versus conditioning-led formulas.
Read the guide IIThe growth cycle, why brows thin after forty, daily care, shaping for your face, tint, henna, lamination, microblading and diet.

Myristoyl pentapeptide-17 and similar chains signal keratin production at the follicle. Slow, gentle, the backbone of most over-the-counter brow formulas.
Isopropyl cloprostenate and its relatives extend the growth phase of the hair cycle. The most visible regrowth, and the ingredient most likely to irritate or darken skin.
Condition the hair shaft so fewer brow hairs snap before the end of their cycle. They do not grow new hair, but they keep what you have.
Adds shine and slip. There is no clinical evidence it thickens brows, so treat it as a conditioner, not a serum.
Remove every trace of brow pencil, pomade and skincare. Serum on top of product or oil simply sits on the surface.
One thin layer over the whole brow, brushed against the hair so it reaches the skin, then a second pass on sparse areas only. More product means more irritation, not more growth.
Every night for sixteen weeks, tweezers in a drawer. Take a photo on day one; the change is gradual enough that you will not trust your memory.

Most women notice softer, denser-looking brows after 4 to 6 weeks of nightly use and real regrowth around week 12 to 16. Brow hairs grow slowly and in staggered cycles, so consistency matters more than the brand.
Peptide and biotin based serums are generally well tolerated. Prostaglandin analogue serums are more potent but can cause redness, darkening of the skin under the brow and stray hair where the serum migrates. Patch test, and talk to a doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have an eye condition.
Usually yes, if the follicles are dormant rather than gone. Stop plucking for sixteen weeks and use a brow serum nightly. Skin that has been bare for years and looks smooth and shiny may not regrow. Read the sixteen-week guide.
Usually years of plucking, plus the natural shortening of the growth phase after the mid-thirties. Hormonal changes around pregnancy, menopause and thyroid conditions, and low iron or vitamin D, are the next suspects. Loss that is sudden or patchy, or a thinning outer third, is worth a blood test.
Brows gradually return to their natural density over three to six months. Most women switch to two or three applications a week for maintenance instead of stopping completely.
Many formulas are labelled for both, but brow hairs are coarser and grow more slowly, and a wider brush applies more evenly. A dedicated brow serum is the better tool for regrowth.
A fragrance-free peptide serum without prostaglandin analogues. In our ranking VEGAMOUR GRO Brow, The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash & Brow and Olaplex Browbond are the prostaglandin-free options.
Prostaglandin analogue serums are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Peptide and biotin serums have no known issues, but check with your doctor or midwife before starting anything new.
Yes. Pause the serum for 48 hours around a tint or lamination, and for the full healing period after microblading. Tint is the quickest way to make fine new serum growth visible.
Microblading gives an instant result and lasts one to three years; a serum costs less, takes four months and grows your own hair. If the skin still has follicles, try the serum first. If a patch has been bare for years, microblading is the realistic route, and a serum keeps the surrounding hairs dense.
